Kimpa Vita lived in the Kingdom of Congo, 1684-1706. She, in her own way, offered resistance to church. She founded a
Christian movement, which also included African elements.
Kimpa Vita believed that Jesus was an African and that also other main characters of Christianity were Africans. The Catholic Church saw Kimpa Vita as a threat, so that on July 2, 1706 at the instegation of the Catholic church she was burnt with her baby for being seen as a witch and heretic.
After the film’s screening, there will be a discussion with the producer and director Ne Kunda Nlaba.
The movie will be shown in English with English subtitles.

Kimpa Vita lebte im Königreich Kongo, 1684-1706. Sie leistete
in der Kirche auf ihre Art Widerstand. Sie gründete eine
christliche Bewegung, die auch afrikanische Elemente einbezieht.
Kimpa Vita glaubte, dass Jesus ein Afrikaner war,
und dass auch andere Hauptfiguren des Christentums Afrikaner
waren. Die katholische Kirche sah Kimpa Vita als Bedrohung,
sodass sie am 02.07.1706 letztendlich auf Betreiben der
katholischen Kirche mit ihrem Baby als Hexe und Ketzerin
auf dem Scheiterhaufen verbrannt wurde.
Im Anschluss an den Film gibt es eine Diskussion mit Produzent und Regisseur
Ne Kunda Nlaba.
